Team Information
The Woodbourne Wave Swim Team is a non-profit organization operating as part of the South Jefferson County Swim League (SJSL). The purpose of the SJSL is to provide an organized competitive summer swim league that is dedicated to promoting sportsmanship and opportunities for all to compete. SJSL is made up of seven member teams; each serving different communities and neighborhoods within the southern Jefferson County area. These include Governor’s Ranch, Ken Caryl, Platte Canyon, Columbine Knolls, Grant Ranch, and Bear Creek. All teams are members of the Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Association (CSSCSA).
In addition to providing an activity option for kids and young athletes over the summer, our coaches are top-notch and come to us with years of experience in National team building, Olympic trials, All-Star, and Championship tracks. The “Wave” is an excellent way for future generations in our community to foster health, responsibility, friendship and citizenship.
Our competitive season begins the first of June and concludes with the State Championship meet held on the last weekend of July. Dual meets between member teams are typically run on Saturday mornings between 7am and Noon.
The Wave is currently rebuilding active swimmer numbers and presence in the community. During the 2024 season, Wave created a Guest Swimmer program allowing swimmers from surrounding communities to participate as part of the regular swim team. These families are by invite only and have connections in the Woodbourne community. This has enabled Wave to grow significantly over the past two years and we will continue this inclusive tradition moving forward.
DETAILS ABOUT BEING A PART OF THE WAVE:
Swimmers must be 4 or older by May 15th of the current swim year to participate in Mini-Wavers or Wave Swim Team. Practices are Mon-Fri between 7-10am depending on the age group and kids 6 and up are encouraged to compete in the SJSL Meets throughout the summer to build and improve their swimming abilities. Registration opens at the end of March and the season is typically end of May-July with social gatherings and 'give back' events for Woodbourne that take place throughout the calendar year.
- The Wave "Culture of Volunteering" supports community investment and proactive support by its members to drive the season forward. Volunteer duties are required for all families who have participating children.
- For members, registration starts at a set amount for the first child, then decreases with each additional child. Non-resident families also contribute a $25 fee per swimmer to supplement use of the pool and maintenance fees that Woodbourne residents already pay through their HOA dues.
- Eligible swimmers include kids of new or existing Woodbourne Residents or children whose grandparents reside in the Woodbourne Community. New in 2024, eligibility also includes non-resident families that are invited by Woodbourne residents.
Wave Swim Buddy Program
The Swim Buddy program with the Woodbourne Wave is designed to foster connections within the community by pairing swimmers together. Throughout the season, buddies are encouraged to get to know each other, offer support and encouragement during meets and practices. Additionally, some buddies enjoy exchanging treats, so it's a good idea to learn a little about your buddy and what they enjoy. The treat/gift exchanges are inexpensive/no-cost gestures to let your buddy know you are thinking of them throughout the season. Some examples of gifts are candy, small fidgets, an encouraging note, artwork, etc.
Buddies will meet and be introduced at the opening season kick-off party before the first home meet!
